The Sultanate of Oman is actively participating in the first meeting of the Board of Directors of the International Centre for UNESCO Associated Schools Network (ICUA). Taking place in Hainan Province, Republic of China, the event is attended by representatives from various countries, including Oman. Chaired by Xie Jing, Vice Governor of Hainan Province, the meeting focused on key topics such as international partnerships, annual plans and programmes for 2024-2025, structuring the centre, budget for 2025, and recommendations from government institutions and regional organizations.

One of the main goals of the meeting is to strengthen relationships with international organizations and government institutions to enhance educational initiatives and promote cultural awareness. The approval of the centre’s annual plans and programmes for the upcoming year is crucial for implementing various projects and activities aimed at fostering collaboration among UNESCO Associated Schools Network members. Additionally, the visit to Chinese schools affiliated with UNESCO and heritage sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List provides valuable insights into different educational programs and cultural heritage preservation efforts.

Oman’s representation at the meeting by Yusriya Al Harthi, Director of the UNESCO Associated Schools, Youth Programs, and UNESCO Clubs Department, highlights the country’s commitment to promoting education and cultural exchange. As a member of the Centre’s Board of Directors, Al Harthi plays a key role in shaping the future direction of the ICUA and ensuring that Oman’s perspectives and priorities are well-represented in the decision-making process. By actively participating in international forums like this, Oman demonstrates its dedication to global cooperation and sustainable development.

The approval of the administrative and organizational regulations of the ICUA marks an important step towards establishing a solid framework for the Centre’s activities and governance structure. With a clear structure in place, the Centre can effectively plan and implement initiatives that support its mission of promoting education, culture, and science. By discussing key topics such as budget allocation, seminar implementation, and visits to educational and heritage sites, the Board of Directors lays the foundation for a successful and impactful year ahead.

The participation of Oman at the ICUA meeting underscores the country’s commitment to UNESCO’s values and principles, particularly in the field of education. By engaging in discussions on international partnerships and program implementation, Oman seeks to enhance its collaborative efforts with other members of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network and contribute to the advancement of global education initiatives. Through its active involvement in the ICUA, Oman aims to strengthen its ties with international organizations and promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding among nations.

In conclusion, Oman’s participation in the first meeting of the ICUA Board of Directors highlights the country’s dedication to promoting education, culture, and science on a global scale. By actively engaging in discussions on key topics and contributing to the Centre’s decision-making processes, Oman demonstrates its commitment to advancing UNESCO’s goals and values. With a focus on international partnerships, program implementation, and cultural exchange, Oman’s representation at the ICUA meeting reflects the country’s desire to play a meaningful role in shaping the future of education and cultural heritage preservation worldwide.
