In 2024, The Peninsula provided its readers with a plethora of news updates on a variety of topics that garnered significant attention among the readers. Reports on the referendum, budget announcements, cabinet reshuffle, holiday announcements for Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, and weather reports were among the most viewed articles. Additionally, popular news updates included the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 final, the arrival of Tesla electric cars in Doha, and the implementation of a dress code for the government sector.

One of the notable stories in January was the conclusion of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023, where Qatar emerged victorious over Jordan in the final match. This marked Qatar’s 14th consecutive victory in the Asian Cup, surpassing Iran’s previous record. In February, the introduction of the Hayya portal aimed to simplify tourism to Qatar, providing visitors with easier access into the country. The portal offered various visa options for tourists planning their visit to Doha.

March brought news of a court ruling convicting 16 individuals for bribery and money laundering at HMC, with significant sentences and fines imposed on the defendants. April highlighted the much-awaited total solar eclipse occurring across North America and how space enthusiasts could watch it remotely. In May, the Ministry of Interior announced new rules regarding exiting Qatar and traffic fine payments, including a 50% discount on fines and restrictions on travel for individuals with pending fines.

June saw the implementation of a dress code for the government sector, outlining specific attire requirements for Qatari and non-Qatari employees. In July, the Ministry of Interior issued a reminder about fines for employers who failed to complete residence visa formalities for expats within a set timeframe. August brought a decision to reduce licensing fees for home businesses in Qatar to boost micro-businesses in the country. September featured an online auction of over 100 cars organized by the Supreme Judiciary Council.

In October, some Indian schools in Qatar introduced a double shift system, while November saw a general referendum on constitutional amendments with a high turnout of Qatari citizens. Additionally, the announcement of ticket sales for the Real Madrid Continental Champions matches generated excitement among football fans. December marked the celebration of Qatar National Day, with reports on holiday announcements, the cancellation of the National Day Parade, and the arrival of the historic Italian ship ‘Amerigo Vespucci’ in Doha.

In conclusion, The Peninsula’s coverage of news updates in 2024 reflected a diverse range of topics that resonated with its readers in Qatar. From sports events and government announcements to cultural celebrations and international visits, the news reports provided valuable insights into the happenings in the country throughout the year. These stories not only informed but also engaged the readers, showcasing the dynamic and evolving nature of Qatar’s political, cultural, and social landscape.
