Removal of restrictions on inherited property for housing benefits

The Bahraini government has recently implemented new changes to the housing policy in an effort to improve housing accessibility and address community needs. One of the key adjustments includes lifting restrictions on wives using inherited property for benefits, which aims to make the housing process more equitable. Additionally, income assessments will now be conducted at the nomination stage rather than during the allocation phase, streamlining the property allocation process.

Her Excellency Amna Al Rumaihi, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, confirmed that the Cabinet has approved the revised housing regulations. The changes were made after reviewing various cases and taking feedback from the national proposals and complaints system, as well as customer service centres and communication with MPs. By coordinating with both legislative and executive branches, the Ministry aims to ensure that the housing changes are implemented effectively.

One significant change endorsed by the Minister is the reorganization of nomination certificates to restrict income reviews to before the certificate is issued. This decision ensures that fluctuations in income will not affect the applicant during the allocation phase, providing more stability in the housing process. Additionally, the new rules specify that children over 21 listed in the application will not be considered if the applicant is a widow or divorcee with minor children, addressing housing needs in specific scenarios.

Overall, the updates to Decision No. (909) of 2015 are designed to offer better housing solutions for Bahraini families and enhance the services available to citizens. It is a step towards creating a more efficient and fair housing system that considers different social groups and their needs. By implementing these changes, the government hopes to improve housing availability and make the process more accessible for all Bahraini citizens.
