Claudio Ranieri, the former coach of Cagliari, has been appointed as the new coach of Italian Serie A football club AS Roma. The 73-year-old has come out of retirement to take on the role and has signed a deal until the end of the season. After that, he will transition into a senior executive role, advising the ownership on all sporting matters at the club. Ranieri will also have a say in choosing a future coach for Roma.

Ranieri is a well-known figure in Italian football, having previously coached Roma twice before. His first spell with the club began in the 2009-10 season when he led Roma on a thrilling league title challenge against Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan. He returns to the club to help dig them out of a crisis, as they currently sit 12th in Serie A, just four points above the relegation zone.

The appointment of Ranieri comes after the sacking of Ivan Juric, who had a short and unsuccessful spell in charge of Roma. Juric had only managed to secure four wins from 12 matches in all competitions before being sacked. Ranieri’s previous experience with the club, as well as his success with Leicester City in winning the Premier League, make him a suitable candidate for leading Roma out of their current difficulties.

Ranieri’s first test as Roma coach will be a challenging one, as they face Napoli after the international break, followed by matches against Tottenham Hotspur in London and Atalanta at home. The decision to appoint Ranieri has been welcomed by fans and the ownership of the club, who are hopeful that he can bring stability and success to Roma for the remainder of the season.

In conclusion, the appointment of Claudio Ranieri as the new coach of Roma signals a new chapter for the Serie A club. With his experience and track record of success in Italian and English football, Ranieri is expected to bring a steady hand and tactical acumen to a team in need of direction. Fans will be hopeful that Ranieri can lead the club to success and restore their position in the upper ranks of Italian football.
