Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is planning to double the number of its volunteers to 60,000 by the end of 2025 in an effort to instil a spirit of community service among the youth. With the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies reducing the age of volunteers from 18 to five years old, QRCS aims to train 11,000 to 15,000 students as volunteers during the upcoming academic year. These new volunteers will be recruited for QRCS volunteering work next year.
In addition, QRCS has launched a volunteering program to promote a culture of volunteering within institutions operating in Qatar. An agreement has been signed with Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) to create a volunteering culture within the Corporation. The program includes workshops and training courses to equip volunteers with the skills needed to contribute effectively to their communities.
Furthermore, QRCS has partnered with the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies to launch a diploma course in sustainability in volunteer work. Through training programs, QRCS aims to improve the skills of volunteers and provide them with the knowledge necessary to handle emergencies and crises, promote community health, and educate them on International Humanitarian Law.
