Qatar Reads, an initiative under Qatar National Library, recently celebrated its fifth anniversary with families who have subscribed to its Family Reading Programme. The event, held at Doha Quest theme park, featured activities and competitions that showcased the initiative’s milestones over the past five years. Children from the programme also performed theatre segments for the attendees and staff. The evening concluded with a ceremony to honor competition winners and subscribed families, highlighting the success of the programme in promoting learning and family bonding.

The Family Reading Programme, designed for children aged 3 to 13, aims to nurture a love for books and create home libraries through a monthly subscription service. Each month, families receive a curated package containing two books, comics, and activity sheets in Arabic, English, or a combination of both. This diverse selection allows children to explore new topics, develop their reading skills, and enjoy a rich intellectual and cultural experience. Additionally, Qatar Reads organizes meetings and sessions on various topics related to the books sent, encouraging children to discuss and engage with the material in a fun and interactive manner.

At the celebration, Qatar Reads emphasized the importance of reading in bringing families together and fostering a lifelong love of learning. The Family Reading Programme has significantly impacted children in Qatar by encouraging them to explore new subjects and enhance their reading abilities. Through the initiative, home libraries have been expanded, and children have been exposed to a wide range of literary genres and languages. This holistic approach to reading not only enhances children’s academic performance but also promotes a deeper understanding and appreciation for different cultures and perspectives.

The event at Doha Quest served as a platform to showcase the interactive and engaging nature of the Family Reading Programme. By combining educational activities with entertainment, participants had the opportunity to learn, engage, and have fun together. The programme’s success lies in its ability to create a supportive and stimulating environment for families to bond over books and storytelling. By instilling a passion for reading at an early age, Qatar Reads is fostering a generation of lifelong learners who are curious, creative, and well-equipped to navigate the complexities of the modern world.

Through its monthly subscription service and regular meetings, Qatar Reads is not only providing families with enriching reading materials but also creating a community of readers who support and inspire each other. The initiative’s commitment to promoting literacy and a love for books has had a lasting impact on children in Qatar, empowering them to explore new horizons and broaden their understanding of the world. As the Family Reading Programme continues to grow and evolve, it will play a crucial role in shaping the future generation of leaders, thinkers, and storytellers in Qatar and beyond.

In conclusion, the fifth-anniversary celebration of Qatar Reads’ Family Reading Programme was a testament to the initiative’s success in promoting literacy, family bonding, and lifelong learning. Through its diverse selection of books, interactive activities, and supportive community, the programme has transformed the reading habits of children in Qatar and enriched their lives in countless ways. As Qatar Reads looks ahead to the future, it remains committed to fostering a culture of reading and intellectual curiosity that will continue to inspire and empower generations to come.
