Qatar National Library (QNL) is preparing to host a series of cultural events throughout December to commemorate Qatar National Day, a celebration of the nation’s founding and its enduring heritage. The library’s programming aims to engage the community with Qatar’s history, art, and future aspirations, offering activities for all ages. Events will run from December 6th, 2025, through January 1st, 2026, at the QNL facility in Doha.

The diverse lineup includes the “Dakka” festival, the “Our Heritage, Our Pride” event, a specialized heritage seminar, and a winter camp for children and young adults. These initiatives are designed to foster a deeper appreciation for Qatari culture and promote a sense of national identity. QNL’s commitment to preserving and showcasing Qatar’s past is a key component of its broader mission as a leading cultural institution.

Celebrating Qatar’s History and Culture with Qatar National Day Events

The festivities begin on December 6th with the Dakka Festival, inspired by the traditional dakka – a long, communal bench symbolizing unity and social connection. This event will feature cultural performances and interactive experiences, providing attendees with a vibrant introduction to Qatari traditions. The library also plans to highlight Islamic culture and global diversity through its ongoing Cultural Mosaic series.

A central event for scholars and history enthusiasts will be the heritage seminar, “The History of Qatar and the Arabian Gulf Through Archival Documents,” scheduled for December 8th. According to QNL, the seminar will feature presentations from prominent historians including Dr. Hamad Al Ghadeed from Qatar University, Dr. Philippe Petriat from Sorbonne University, and Dr. Abdulrahman Alebrahim from the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies. They will analyze historical records to offer new insights into pivotal moments in Qatar’s development and its regional influence.

On December 13th, families are invited to “Our Heritage, Our Pride,” an outdoor event showcasing Qatari culture through traditional tents, workshops, and storytelling. The popular library mascot, Ramli, will also make an appearance, adding to the family-friendly atmosphere. Such events aim to transmit cultural knowledge to younger generations, ensuring the continuity of traditions.

Spotlight on Contemporary Qatar

Beyond the historical focus, the library will also showcase Qatar’s modern advancements and artistic vision. Architect Fatma Ibrahim Al Sahlawi will deliver a presentation on December 14th titled “An Architectural Vision Through Innovative Qatari Eyes.” This lecture will reportedly explore the country’s urban transformation and its commitment to innovation in architectural design.

Additionally, artist Haifa Al Khuzai will lead a hands-on workshop, “Cultural Mosaic: Qatari Identity Through Art,” on December 15th. Participants will engage in creative expression to explore their understanding of Qatari heritage, blending traditional and contemporary artistic techniques. This emphasis on art and architecture demonstrates Qatar’s investment in cultural and creative industries.

Engaging Youth Through Education and Entertainment

QNL’s Winter Camp, running from December 21st, 2025, to January 1st, 2026, will provide a comprehensive program for children and young adults. The camp will incorporate storytelling, creative workshops, STEM activities, and 3D modeling sessions, aiming to inspire curiosity and learning during the school break. This initiative aligns with Qatar’s national vision for education and human development.

The library’s expanded December programming builds on its existing efforts to serve as a hub for cultural preservation and education. Qatar has significantly invested in cultural institutions like QNL as part of its broader strategy to diversify its economy and enhance its international profile. The National Day celebrations are a key component of this strategy, promoting a sense of national pride and attracting both domestic and international visitors.

Looking ahead, QNL will likely continue to expand its cultural offerings in the new year, potentially incorporating feedback from these December events. The success of these initiatives will be measured by attendance rates and community engagement, providing valuable data for future programming. Further announcements regarding QNL’s plans for 2026 are expected in the coming weeks.

Qatar National Library continues to be a vital resource for preserving and promoting Qatar’s rich cultural heritage. The Peninsula Qatar reports on the expansive plans for the upcoming month. The Qatar celebrations offer an opportunity to learn more about the history of the Arabian Gulf and its cultural significance.
