Hundreds of students from diverse backgrounds gathered at the Qatar Leadership Conference (QLC), a regional initiative organized by Qatar Foundation’s (QF) Pre-University Education (PUE) to foster leadership, diplomacy, and critical thinking skills. Held over two days in Doha, the conference featured 20 student-led sessions and workshops by international and local experts.

The QLC brought together 328 students representing 47 nationalities, including 167 Qatari students from 18 local schools. The event’s theme, “Bridging Worlds: Technology, Sustainability, and Social Change,” highlighted the importance of integrating technology and sustainability to drive social change. According to Amina Hassan, Head of THIMUN Qatar, the conference evolved from a Model United Nations training into a national platform for leadership development.

Leadership Development through QLC

The QLC is part of QF’s efforts to nurture a generation capable of making a positive impact in their communities. The conference’s diverse program featured speakers from various backgrounds, including local entrepreneurs, graduates, and international experts from countries such as China, India, and the US.

The event focused on 11 key themes, including mental health, communication, career development, and entrepreneurship. By exploring these topics, the QLC aimed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to address complex global challenges. The conference’s emphasis on sustainability and technology underscored the importance of innovative solutions in driving social change.

Building a Sustainable Future

The QLC’s theme highlighted the interconnectedness of technology, sustainability, and social change. As the world grapples with the challenges of climate change and social inequality, initiatives like the QLC play a crucial role in empowering young people to become active participants in shaping a more sustainable future. The conference’s focus on leadership development and critical thinking skills is particularly relevant in today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The QLC’s emphasis on entrepreneurship and business innovation reflected the growing recognition of the importance of these skills in driving economic growth and social progress. By providing a platform for students to share their ideas and learn from experts, the conference helped to foster a culture of innovation and creativity. According to Hassan, the event’s diverse lineup of speakers and participants helped to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment.

As the QLC comes to a close, participants can be expected to apply the skills and knowledge gained during the conference to their future endeavors. The next steps for the initiative are likely to involve continued support for the development of leadership skills among young people in Qatar and beyond. With its focus on sustainability, technology, and social change, the QLC is well-positioned to make a lasting impact on the region. The Qatar Foundation’s commitment to nurturing a generation capable of driving positive change will likely continue to shape the QLC’s future initiatives.
