This year’s Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW) 2024, organized by the Earthna Center for a Sustainable Future and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, saw record participation with over 150,000 people taking part in around 500 activities. Dr. Gonzalo Castro de la Mata, Executive Director of Earthna, emphasized the importance of the event in promoting eco-friendly living and working practices in Qatar.

The event aimed to bring together various sectors including government, schools, universities, the private sector, NGOs, and the community to foster a unified commitment towards addressing sustainability challenges and creating a healthier world for future generations. Earthna, along with other organizations, conducted media and social media campaigns to raise awareness about sustainability issues during QSW 2024.

Dr. Castro de la Mata expressed gratitude towards the partners and contributors for their support during this year’s event and stated that they are looking forward to building on the success of 2024 for QSW’s tenth anniversary in 2025. Earthna facilitated impactful sessions during QSW 2024, addressing critical topics that will shape sustainability thinking and action in Qatar.

One of the key highlights of this year’s QSW was the Qatar National Dialogue on Climate Change (QNDCC) 2024, held for the first time in collaboration with MoECC. The importance of cross-sector collaboration in addressing climate challenges was emphasized during the dialogue, with the partnership of the German Embassy Doha, the German Industry & Commerce Office in Doha, the Al-Attiyah Foundation, QNB, and DHL Express Qatar.

The event also saw the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs raising awareness of sustainability in the Friday sermon on October 4, reaching over 1 million people with important environmental ideas. Dr. Castro de la Mata highlighted the significance of bringing together different stakeholders to work towards a sustainable future and commended the enthusiasm shown towards this year’s edition of QSW.

Overall, Qatar Sustainability Week 2024 succeeded in engaging a wide range of stakeholders and promoting sustainability practices in Qatar. With a record number of participants and various activities focused on eco-friendly living and working, the event highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing environmental challenges and creating a more sustainable future for all.
