QEERI convenes meetings to promote global standards for Photovoltaic Panels

The Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) recently hosted the International Electrotechnical Commission, Technical Committee 82 – Workgroup 2 Photovoltaic (PV) Modules (IEC TC82 WG2) in Doha. Approximately 60 attendees from 10 different countries participated in person, with more following online. The focus of the meetings was on international standards addressing the safety, performance, and reliability of PV modules to meet local market needs and end-user requirements.

The event was inaugurated by Abeer Al Dosari, Stakeholder Relations Manager at QEERI, on behalf of Acting Executive Director Dr. Tareq Al Ansari. Eng. Jabr Mohammad Al-Nuaimi, Director of Standards and Metrology Department (QS), also welcomed participants and expressed hopes for fruitful discussions. The working group aimed to establish new international standards for solar PV modules to ensure quality throughout the installation’s lifetime and to review and amend existing standards to align with the latest developments in PV module manufacturing.

Dr. Tareq Al Ansari highlighted the significance of hosting an international meeting in Doha to advance international standards for photovoltaic technology. He emphasized QEERI’s expertise in harnessing solar energy and commitment to sustainable energy solutions in Qatar and beyond. Dr. Amir Abdallah, Scientist at QEERI, emphasized the importance of collaborating with global experts in shaping international standards essential for the advancement of solar PV technology. He reiterated QEERI’s dedication to driving innovation in renewable energy and ensuring sustainable solutions.

The discussions at the IEC TC82 WG2 meetings provided an overview of topics important for stakeholders involved in developing international standards, including the PV industry, utilities, end-users, research institutions, test laboratories, governments, and regulators. These meetings served as a platform for collaboration and exchange of ideas among experts in the field, aiming to improve the safety, performance, and reliability of PV modules. The event in Doha showcased QEERI’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions and contributing to the development of international standards for solar PV technology.

Overall, the IEC TC82 WG2 meetings in Doha highlighted the importance of international collaboration in setting standards for solar PV modules to ensure quality and performance. The discussions focused on addressing the evolving needs of the PV industry and end-users while aligning with the latest advancements in PV module manufacturing. QEERI’s role in hosting and participating in these meetings underscored its dedication to advancing sustainable energy solutions and driving innovation in renewable energy.
