Doha, Qatar – The Qatar Career Development Center (QCDC), a member of Qatar Foundation, has launched a new Post-Graduate Diploma in Career Development, a significant step towards professionalizing career guidance services within the country. The diploma, announced at a press conference in Education City, is a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), EduCluster Finland, and Community College Qatar (CCQ). This initiative aims to build a skilled national workforce equipped to provide high-quality career support to students and job seekers.
The program’s launch comes as Qatar continues to prioritize aligning educational outcomes with the demands of a rapidly evolving labor market. Representatives from all partner organizations emphasized the importance of structured, evidence-based guidance in navigating increasingly complex educational and professional pathways. The diploma is expected to serve 20 to 40 students in its first cohort.
Advancing Career Development in Qatar
This new diploma represents a national investment in strengthening the quality and consistency of career development services. According to QCDC Executive Director Saad Abdulla Al Kharji, effective career guidance is vital for developing human potential, supporting positive educational outcomes, and ensuring workforce readiness. The program’s unique aspect is its delivery in Arabic, making it the first of its kind in the region, while still adhering to internationally recognized best practices.
Collaboration and Curriculum
The diploma was developed in partnership with EduCluster Finland, leveraging Finnish expertise in education and training. Coordination Lead of EduCluster Finland’s Academic Advisory Council, Dr. David Marsh, highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts for meaningful innovation in education. The curriculum is designed around applied learning, emphasizing practical skills relevant to real-world scenarios in schools, higher education institutions, and workplaces.
The 12-month program requires approximately 1,500 learning hours, equivalent to 30 academic credits. Participants can specialize in areas such as K-12 education, higher education and training, or workplace career guidance. This specialization aims to address the specific needs of different sectors within Qatar’s human capital development strategy.
Alignment with National Priorities
The initiative directly supports the goals outlined in Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy, which prioritizes aligning education with labor market needs. Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education at MoEHE, Dr. Hareb Mohammed Al Jabri, stated that the diploma will help ensure students are guided towards pathways that match their abilities and contribute to the national workforce. This focus on skills development is crucial for Qatar’s continued economic diversification.
Community College Qatar (CCQ) will serve as the local delivery partner, providing the infrastructure and support necessary for the program’s success. CCQ President Dr. Khalid Mohamed Al-Horr emphasized the college’s commitment to offering practice-based academic programs that support individuals in planning their careers and contribute to the country’s human development objectives.
The launch of this diploma reinforces QCDC’s broader mission to create an integrated career development ecosystem. By fostering collaboration and focusing on practical, evidence-based training, the program aims to elevate professional standards and empower practitioners to provide effective, impactful guidance.
Looking ahead, the first cohort of students is expected to begin their studies in the coming months. The long-term success of the program will depend on ongoing evaluation and adaptation to ensure it continues to meet the evolving needs of Qatar’s education system and labor market. Monitoring the program’s impact on student outcomes and workforce readiness will be key indicators of its effectiveness.
Qatar Career Development Center remains committed to developing and implementing initiatives to enhance the country’s career landscape.
