The Ambassador of Qatar to the United States, HE Meshal Al Thani, recently welcomed the decision by the US Department of Homeland Security to include Qatar in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). This move marks a significant milestone in the strong relationship between the two nations, with Qatar becoming the first Gulf country to be admitted into the VWP. Starting from December 1, 2024, Qatari citizens and nationals will be able to travel to the US for tourism or business for up to 90 days without the need for a US visa.

In a statement on his official X account, HE Meshal Al Thani highlighted the various ways in which this development will benefit both countries. He emphasized the close cooperation between Qatar and the US in key areas such as counterterrorism, combating illegal financial networks, and fighting human trafficking. The inclusion of Qatar in the VWP is seen as a reflection of the deepening ties between the two countries at a security level.

Furthermore, the Ambassador underscored the potential for increased bilateral cooperation in commerce, tourism, and cultural exchange as a result of Qatar’s inclusion in the VWP. This significant development is viewed as a positive step towards further advancements in the partnership between Qatar and the US. HE Meshal Al Thani expressed pride in the progress made in the relationship and reaffirmed the commitment to enhancing cooperation between the two nations.

The decision to include Qatar in the VWP is expected to bring about various benefits for both countries. Qatar’s participation in the program will facilitate easier travel for Qatari citizens and nationals to the US, promoting tourism and business opportunities between the two nations. It is also anticipated that the inclusion of Qatar in the VWP will enhance people-to-people exchanges and cultural understanding, contributing to the strengthening of ties between the two countries.

HE Meshal Al Thani’s welcoming of Qatar’s inclusion in the VWP underscores the importance of the move in enhancing the already strong relationship between Qatar and the US. The Ambassador’s statement reflects the positive sentiment towards the deepening of cooperation and collaboration between the two nations across a range of areas. Qatar’s participation in the VWP is seen as a significant step towards furthering the mutually beneficial partnership between Qatar and the US.

As Qatar becomes the first Gulf country to be admitted into the US’s Visa Waiver Program, it sets a precedent for closer ties and increased cooperation between the US and other Gulf nations. The decision to include Qatar in the VWP demonstrates a recognition of Qatar’s efforts in areas such as security, counterterrorism, and combating illegal financial networks. This development is expected to pave the way for expanded opportunities for collaboration and engagement between Qatar and the US in the years to come.
