Qatari swimmers impress at Islamic Solidarity Games

Qatar’s swimmers are showcasing their skills at the Islamic Solidarity Games Riyadh 2025, with Mohammed Mahmoud narrowly missing a podium finish in the men’s 200m individual medley event. The games, which commenced recently in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, feature over 3,000 athletes from 57 nations competing across 23 sports.

The Al Annabi swimmers have been in strong form, with Mahmoud finishing fourth in the 200m individual medley in 2:05.69, just 0.62 seconds behind the bronze medalist. Additionally, he finished seventh in the 100m breaststroke, while teammate Ali Tamer clocked 22.72s to claim fourth in the 50m freestyle, only 0.15s off the bronze medal.

Swimmers Continue to Shine at Islamic Solidarity Games

The Qatari swimmers’ performance at the Islamic Solidarity Games has been impressive, with several athletes competing in various events. Tamer is set to contest the 100m freestyle today, while Hamza Shaalan will compete in the 200m breaststroke, and Aziz Al-Jilani will take part in the 200m butterfly.

However, not all Qatari athletes have had the same level of success. The men’s table tennis team was eliminated in the quarter-finals after losing to Kazakhstan. In the judo competition, Haya Al-Kuwari was defeated in the repechage round of the under-70kg category.

Qatar’s Volleyball Team Looks to Bounce Back

The Qatari men’s volleyball team faces a crucial match against hosts Saudi Arabia today, followed by a game against Bahrain on Wednesday to conclude their group stage. The team’s performance in these matches will determine their chances of advancing to the next round.

The Islamic Solidarity Games provide a platform for athletes from participating nations to compete and showcase their skills. With 82 Qatari athletes participating in 16 disciplines, the country’s delegation is expected to make a significant impact at the games, according to the Qatar Olympic Committee.

As the games continue, Qatari athletes will look to build on their performances and achieve success in their respective events. The outcome of the remaining matches will be crucial in determining the overall medal tally and the success of the participating nations.
