Qatar to host FIBA West Asia Super League Final 8

The FIBA West Asia Super League Final 8 2024 is set to take place in Doha, Qatar, from May 25 to June 1, 2024. This event marks a significant moment for Qatar’s basketball journey, showcasing the country’s regional prowess and laying the groundwork for hosting the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2027. Qatar’s commitment to excellence as a host city is evident, with the Qatar Basketball Federation President Mohammed Saad Al Mughaiseeb emphasizing the country’s readiness for the upcoming World Cup.

The FIBA Regional Office Asia Executive Director, Hagop Khajirian, expressed pride and excitement at Qatar’s hosting of the WASL Final 8, highlighting the growth and development of basketball in the region. This will be the first time Doha serves as the host city for this much-anticipated event, following the inaugural edition in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Qatar has a history of hosting basketball events, including recent FIBA U16 Asia Cups and the FIBA Asia Cup in 2005, further solidifying its position as a hotbed for basketball in the region.

Six teams from the FIBA WASL Sub-Zone Leagues will make up the Final 8, including champions Kuwait Club, Manama, Kazma, Al Riyadi, Shahrdary Gorgan, and Sagesse Sports Club. These teams will be joined by BC Astana from Central Asia and Tamil Nadu from South Asia. The two finalist clubs will earn a spot in the inaugural Basketball Champions League Asia, to be played in Dubai from June 9-15. This event marks another chapter in Doha’s basketball journey, setting the stage for unforgettable moments in the sport’s history.

The Qatar Basketball Federation is thrilled to host the FIBA West Asia Super League 2024 Final 8, recognizing it as a significant milestone for the country’s basketball journey. Qatar’s commitment to excellence as a host city is evident, with the federation preparing for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2027. Qatar has a strong tradition of hosting basketball events, including recent U16 Asia Cups and the FIBA Asia Cup in 2005, showcasing its regional prowess in the sport.

The FIBA WASL Final 8 in Doha represents the culmination of a successful season of basketball in the region, bringing together top teams from the FIBA WASL Sub-Zone Leagues. The presence of champions Kuwait Club, along with other strong contenders, highlights the competitive nature of the event. With the participation of teams from Central Asia and South Asia, the Final 8 promises to be a thrilling showcase of basketball talent and skill.
