The Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) has announced the beginning of a period of escalating heat and rising humidity in Doha, starting tonight, July 15. This period is marked by the Al-Hana’a star, during which the heat will be intense and humidity levels will increase. Over the next 13 days, temperatures will continue to rise, reaching their peak, warned QMD.

During this period, there will be a reduction in drought-like conditions and an increase in humidity, especially along the coast line. The seasonal hot, intense, dry wind known as ‘Simoom’ will also intensify until midnight, according to the department. These changes in weather patterns will lead to the formation of light fog and a general decrease in wind activity, resulting in calmer winds.

As the heat and humidity levels increase during this period, it is important for residents of Doha to take necessary precautions to stay safe and healthy. It is recommended to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing to keep cool. Additionally, it is advised to limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Qatar has experienced extreme heatwaves in the past, with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius during the summer months. The combination of high temperatures and humidity can be especially dangerous, leading to heat exhaustion and heatstroke if proper precautions are not taken. QMD urges residents to stay informed about weather updates and to follow safety guidelines to prevent heat-related illnesses.

During this period of escalating heat, it is important to be aware of the signs of heat-related illnesses, such as dizziness, nausea, rapid heartbeat, and excessive sweating. If you or someone you know experiences these symptoms, it is important to seek shade, rest, and hydrate immediately. In severe cases, seek medical attention to prevent further complications from heat exhaustion or heatstroke.

In conclusion, the Qatar Meteorology Department has issued a warning about the upcoming period of escalating heat and rising humidity in Doha. With temperatures expected to reach their peak over the next 13 days, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe and healthy. By staying informed about weather updates, following safety guidelines, and being aware of the signs of heat-related illnesses, individuals can prevent heat exhaustion and heatstroke during this challenging period of extreme weather conditions.
