The 2025-2026 season of the Qatar Table Tennis League commenced on Tuesday in Doha, with nine prominent clubs vying for the championship title. The league, a key event in Qatar’s sporting calendar, aims to promote the sport and identify top talent in the country. Initial matches were played at the Training and Preparation Center in Ras Abu Aboud, setting the stage for an eight-day competition.

The opening round saw decisive victories for Qatar Club, Al Khor, Al Rayyan, and Al Sadd, defeating their respective opponents – Al Ahli, Al Gharafa, Al Shamal, and Al Wakrah – all with 3-0 or 3-1 scores. These results immediately establish a competitive landscape as teams battle for positioning in the standings. The tournament is being closely monitored by officials from the Qatar Table Tennis Federation.

Qatar Table Tennis League: 2025-2026 Season Underway

This year’s competition builds on the momentum from the previous season, which saw Al Arabi claim the table tennis title for the first time in 12 years. Al Arabi dominated the 2024-2025 league, securing a perfect 8-0 record and finishing with 16 points. The federation hopes to see continued growth in participation and fan engagement with this renewed interest in the sport.

First Round Results in Detail

Qatar Club began their campaign with a strong performance against Al Ahli, winning 3-0. Al Khor followed suit, securing a 3-1 victory over Al Gharafa. Al Rayyan also achieved a clean sweep, defeating Al Shamal 3-0. Finally, Al Sadd demonstrated their skill with a 3-1 win against Al Wakrah.

The presence of key Federation officials, including Mohammed Ahmed Al Rumaihi and Ali Sultan Al Muftah, underscored the importance of the event and their commitment to overseeing fair play. This commitment extends to ensuring a high level of organization throughout the tournament.

Looking ahead, Wednesday’s schedule features Al Arabi facing Al Ahli, a rematch of last season’s champions against one of the lower-ranked teams. Qatar Club will compete against Al Gharafa, while Al Sadd challenges Al Shamal and Al Khor takes on Al Rayyan. Qatar Tribune is providing comprehensive coverage of the matches.

The league’s structure involves nine rounds played over eight consecutive days. This compressed schedule will test the endurance and strategic adaptability of the players. The tournament is scheduled to conclude on November 27th, culminating in the identification of the season’s top three teams.

Last year’s final standings showed a clear hierarchy, with Qatar Club finishing second with 15 points and Al Sadd rounding out the podium with 14 points. Al Khor secured fourth place with 13 points, while Al Rayyan, Al Shamal, Al Gharafa, Al Wakrah, and Al Ahli followed in fifth through ninth positions, respectively. The Peninsula Qatar reported on the previous seasons’ competitive balance.

Beyond the competition itself, the Qatar Table Tennis Federation aims to develop the sport at the grassroots level, fostering a new generation of players. This includes initiatives to increase access to training facilities and promote table tennis in schools.

The coming days will reveal more about each team’s strengths and weaknesses as they navigate the demanding tournament schedule. Monitoring the performance of Al Arabi, last season’s champions, and their ability to maintain their winning form is a key storyline. The final standings and potential upsets remain uncertain, making the conclusion of the tournament on November 27th a crucial date for sport enthusiasts in Qatar.
