Qatar is preparing to host the inaugural Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF) U-23 Gulf Cup from December 4th to 16th, 2025. This tournament will showcase emerging football talent from across the Gulf region, with eight national teams competing for the title. The event underscores Qatar’s continued commitment to developing football at the youth level and its growing prominence as a global sports hub.

The competition will be held across two prominent venues in Doha: the Aspire Zone pitches for the group stage and the iconic Stadium 974 for the final match. This marks the first time the AGCFF is organizing this specific tournament, representing a significant expansion of youth football initiatives in the Arab Gulf.

U-23 Gulf Cup: A Launchpad for Regional Football Stars

Jassim Sultan Al Rumaihi, AGCFF Secretary General, emphasized that the U-23 Gulf Cup is crucial for nurturing young players and fostering competitiveness in the region. He stated the tournament offers a pivotal stage for transitioning players to senior national teams. According to the AGCFF, the focus is on providing these rising stars with valuable experience and exposure.

The eight participating teams have been divided into two groups. Group A will feature Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait, while Group B will consist of Iraq, the UAE, Oman, and Yemen. The group stage, comprising 14 matches, will be free and open to the public, encouraging widespread fan support.

Tournament Schedule and Venue Details

The opening match of the tournament is scheduled for December 4th at 2:45 PM local time, featuring Iraq against Yemen at the Aspire Zone. The host nation, Qatar, will begin their campaign on December 5th, also at 2:45 PM, against Kuwait at the same venue.

The Aspire Zone was recently used for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025, demonstrating its capacity to host international youth football tournaments. Stadium 974, notable as the first fully demountable covered football stadium, previously hosted matches during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Accessibility is a priority for the organizers, with both venues designed to ensure a smooth experience for disabled fans. This commitment reflects Qatar’s overall inclusive approach to hosting major sporting events.

Qatar’s Busy Football Calendar

The U-23 Gulf Cup is one component of a packed football schedule for Qatar in December 2025. The nation will also be hosting the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 from December 1st to 18th, alongside the FIFA Intercontinental Cup Qatar 2025 on December 10th, 13th, and 17th. This demonstrates Qatar’s capability to simultaneously manage multiple high-profile international football competitions.

The hosting of these events is expected to boost tourism and further solidify Qatar’s position as a leading sports destination in the Middle East. Additionally, the influx of youth players and attention on the U-23 Gulf Cup could stimulate development in youth football programs across the region.

Tickets for the final match at Stadium 974 will become available in the coming days, according to the AGCFF. Further details regarding ticket sales and distribution will be announced shortly.

Looking ahead, the success of this inaugural U-23 Gulf Cup will be a key factor in determining the future scope and frequency of the tournament. Stakeholders will be watching closely to assess the level of competition, fan engagement, and overall impact on youth football development in the Gulf region. The organization’s next step will be evaluating the tournament’s performance to determine potential changes for future editions.
