Qatar selected as host for FIBA West Asia Super League Final 8

The FIBA West Asia Super League Final 8 2024 is set to take place in Doha, Qatar, marking the first time that the city will host this prestigious basketball event. Scheduled from May 25 to June 1, 2024, the event is a significant milestone for Qatar as it prepares to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2027. The announcement was made by Hagop Khajirian, FIBA Regional Office – Asia Executive Director, who expressed pride and excitement at Qatar’s hosting of the event.

Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) President Mohammed Saad Al Mughaiseeb also shared his enthusiasm for hosting the Final 8, highlighting the country’s commitment to excellence and readiness for upcoming basketball events. Qatar has previously hosted FIBA events, including the FIBA U16 Asia Cups in 2022 and 2023, as well as the FIBA Asia Cup in 2005. Saadoun Al Kuwari, QBF Secretary General, emphasized Qatar’s tradition of being a hotbed for basketball in the region and the significance of the Final 8 in continuing this legacy.

The Final 8 will feature six teams from the FIBA WASL Sub-Zone Leagues, including champions Kuwait Club and other teams from the Gulf and West Asia regions. The two finalist clubs from the event will secure a spot in the inaugural Basketball Champions League Asia, taking place from June 9-15 in Dubai. This event is expected to showcase the talent and competitiveness of teams from across the region, providing an unforgettable experience for basketball fans and players alike.
