The 27th meeting of the Ministers of Information of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries took place in Doha, Qatar, under the chairmanship of HE Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al-Thani. During the meeting, discussions were held on the tragic events and conditions faced by the residents of the Gaza Strip, with an emphasis on the importance of media coverage in shaping global public opinion. HE Sheikh Hamad stressed the need for joint Gulf media efforts to publish and broadcast Palestinian content in various languages to garner international support for legitimate Palestinian issues and rights, in line with the recent 159th Ministerial Meeting of the GCC States.

The challenges facing Gulf societies, whether internal, regional, or international, place a burden on media organizations to enhance their performance and content to reflect the interests and aspirations of the Gulf societies. It was also highlighted that media outlets need to keep pace with rapid regional and international developments and contribute to achieving greater integration and unity among the Gulf countries. HE Sheikh Hamad called for stronger coordination between GCC countries to uphold a common Gulf media vision and elevate the level of integration and coherence in media work.

HE Khalid bin Ali Al Sunaidi expressed gratitude to the State of Qatar for its support of joint Gulf action, particularly in the field of media. He also congratulated attendees on the 43rd anniversary of the founding of the Gulf Cooperation Council. The meeting agenda included discussions on enhancing cooperation between GCC countries in the field of media, with a focus on enacting regulatory controls for electronic commercial advertising mechanisms on social media platforms within member states and developing an awareness-raising media plan that promotes morals and Gulf values.

The need for instilling Gulf values and identity in media content, as well as creating a digital initiative for the safety of children in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, were also addressed during the meeting. The ministers recognized the importance of cooperation in these areas to effectively address the evolving challenges faced by Gulf societies. Overall, the discussions at the meeting underscored the commitment of GCC countries to working together to strengthen joint media efforts and enhance collaboration on key media initiatives and strategies.

The outcome of the meeting demonstrated a unified approach towards addressing pressing media-related issues within the Gulf Cooperation Council. By prioritizing joint efforts to promote Palestinian content and values, regulate advertising on social media platforms, and raise awareness on digital safety for children, the GCC countries showcased their commitment to advancing media cooperation and integration. Moving forward, continued collaboration and coordination in these areas will be essential to effectively navigate the ever-changing media landscape and uphold the shared values and interests of the Gulf societies.
