The 26th meeting of the Undersecretaries of the GCC Ministries of Justice commenced in Doha, Qatar, with the State of Qatar leading the proceedings. This gathering aims to strengthen judicial and legal cooperation among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, H E Sultan bin Abdullah Al Suwaidi, emphasized the importance of the meeting in advancing joint judicial efforts and consolidating areas of shared work.

Al Suwaidi highlighted the review of draft decisions and guiding laws across various legal fields to be presented to the Ministers of Justice at their upcoming meeting in Doha. The participating delegations were welcomed, signaling a commitment to enhancing cooperation among member countries.

Counsellor Sultan bin Nasser Al Suwaidi, GCC Assistant Secretary-General for Legislative and Legal Affairs, commended the Ministry of Justice for effective management of technical meetings during Qatar’s presidency. Recognizing the achievements made in bolstering joint Gulf action in the judicial field, he highlighted the unity and cohesion of GCC countries in legal matters. The discussions included topics related to developing agreements on enforcement of sentences, commissions, warrants, and cooperation in civil, commercial, personal status, and criminal matters among the GCC nations.

The meeting also addressed the draft unified rules for combating discrimination and hate speech in the GCC countries, showcasing a commitment to upholding legal and judicial standards in the region. The initiative to enhance judicial integration among GCC countries, led by the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs in Oman, was a focal point of discussion. Furthermore, reports from committees of directors and heads of training, judicial and legal centers, and institutes were presented for consideration in generating recommendations for the Ministers of Justice.

As the meeting progresses, the focus remains on advancing legal and judicial cooperation to foster unity and progress in the GCC. The collective efforts of the Ministries of Justice in the region aim to enhance collaboration and promote shared values in the legal sphere.
