The 44th Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) General Assembly recently took place in New Delhi, India with the participation of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC). Led by First Vice President HE Mohammed Yousef Al Mana, the QOC’s delegation included Second Vice President HE Dr Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari and Secretary-General HE Jassim bin Rashid Al Buainain. The meeting focused on discussing the final report of the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games and various topics on the agenda that would promote joint Asian action in the sports field and advance the Asian Olympic movement.

One of the key highlights of the assembly was the re-election of HE Dr Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari as the OCA Vice President for West Asia for the term 2024-2028. This recognition reflects his continued commitment to advancing the sports movement in the region. Additionally, Director of Marketing and International Cooperation Sector at the QOC, HE Shiekha Asma bint Thani Al Thani, was appointed as Vice-Chair of the OCA Gender Equity Committee, showcasing Qatar’s dedication to promoting gender equality in sports.

The participation of the QOC in the OCA General Assembly demonstrates Qatar’s active involvement in the Asian sports community and its commitment to furthering cooperation and development in the region. With key leaders such as HE Mohammed Yousef Al Mana and HE Dr Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari representing the QOC, Qatar is well-positioned to contribute to the advancement of the Asian Olympic movement.

As the sports world continues to evolve, initiatives such as the OCA Gender Equity Committee play a crucial role in promoting inclusivity and diversity within the Asian sports landscape. HE Shiekha Asma bint Thani Al Thani’s appointment to this committee underscores Qatar’s efforts to champion gender equality and empower women in sports, aligning with the global push for greater representation and opportunities for female athletes.

Overall, the participation of the QOC in the 44th OCA General Assembly in New Delhi signifies Qatar’s ongoing commitment to sports development and cooperation at the regional and international levels. With key appointments and discussions at the assembly, Qatar is poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of the Asian sports movement and promoting gender equality in sports.
