Qatar Museums (QM) has unveiled a comprehensive December program filled with cultural events designed to engage the community through art, education, and creative expression. The diverse lineup includes workshops, photowalks, presentations, and guided tours at various QM locations across Doha, offering opportunities for residents and visitors to explore Qatar’s artistic heritage and participate in hands-on learning experiences. These initiatives are part of the broader Qatar Creates movement, celebrating the nation’s cultural evolution.

The programs will run throughout December at locations including the Art Mill Museum, ALRIWAQ, the National Museum of Qatar, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, M7, and QM Katara Gallery. Events are scheduled from December 2nd through December 22nd, with a variety of options catering to different interests and age groups. The schedule aims to provide accessible cultural enrichment for all.

Exploring Architectural Legacy and Storytelling Through Cultural Events

A key highlight will be guided tours of the “I. M. Pei: Life Is Architecture” exhibition at the Art Mill Museum and ALRIWAQ, running from December 17th to 22nd. These tours, led by professional architects, will delve into the innovative style of the renowned architect I.M. Pei and the stories behind his most celebrated buildings. The exhibition celebrates Pei’s lasting impact on the field of architecture.

Meanwhile, QM Katara Gallery will host “Frame By Frame: A Workshop on Storytelling” from December 2nd to 9th. This workshop will introduce participants to cinematic techniques and narrative structures, utilizing coloring materials to capture personal memories and shared experiences. The focus is on visual communication and the power of storytelling.

Special Events and Collaborations

The National Museum of Qatar will mark its 50th anniversary with a special photowalk on December 5th. Led by Qatari photographer Maryam Al Hail, the walk will focus on architectural photography, exploring the museum’s unique design and the contrast between its historic Old Palace and contemporary additions. This event aims to foster appreciation for Qatar’s architectural landscape.

Additionally, the Archaeology and Heritage Department will present a lecture on December 7th as part of the Qatar-Argentina 2025 Year of Culture program. The presentation will detail research and preservation efforts related to historic shipwrecks off the coast of Argentina, highlighting the maritime history of the nation. This is one of several initiatives planned for the year-long cultural exchange.

The Tasweer Festival will collaborate with the Qatar Auto Museum for a unique photowalk on December 13th at Mawater Sealine Sports Club. Participants will have the opportunity to photograph dynamic scenes of freestyle drifting featuring over 40 modified vehicles. This event blends photography with automotive culture.

Hands-on Workshops and Artistic Development

Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art will offer a practical portraiture workshop throughout December, held every Sunday and Tuesday. Artist Ismail Azzam will lead the workshop, teaching participants techniques using pencil, charcoal, and paint to develop their artistic skills and encourage creative dialogue. The workshops are designed to be accessible to artists of all levels.

M7 will host a Physical Moodboarding Workshop on December 13th, available in both Arabic and English. This workshop focuses on visual storytelling and fashion illustration, enabling participants to express their creative ideas and create personalized artwork inspired by the “FTA: Threads of Impact” exhibitions. The workshop aims to bridge the gap between concept and visual representation.

These cultural events are part of a larger celebration of “Evolution Nation,” a collaboration between Qatar Museums and Qatar Creates. This initiative highlights Qatar’s cultural journey over the past 50 years and outlines aspirations for the future of arts and creativity within the nation. The program underscores Qatar’s commitment to fostering a vibrant arts scene.

Looking ahead, Qatar Museums will likely continue to announce further arts and culture programming in the new year, building on the momentum generated by these December initiatives. The success of these events will be measured by public participation and feedback, informing future program development. Further details regarding upcoming exhibitions and workshops are expected to be released in early 2024.
