The State of Qatar recently participated in an international conference at UNESCO headquarters in Paris to celebrate the centenary of the establishment of the International Institute of Intellectual Cooperation (IIIC). Qatar’s representatives at the event included Dr. Nasser bin Hamad Al Hanzab and Dr. Ghanem bin Mubarak Al Ali. The conference showcased films from UNESCO’s archives and featured an exhibition in collaboration with Japan. The IIIC was founded in 1920 after World War I and played a crucial role in developing international standards, organizing conferences, and publishing works on various cultural topics.

The International Institute of Intellectual Cooperation was established following the founding of the League of Nations in 1920. It focused on promoting international cooperation and fostering dialogue on topics such as culture, humanism, and European-Latin American relations. The institute’s experiences were later used by the founders of UNESCO when creating the organization. The recent conference in Paris aimed to reflect on the legacy of the IIIC and explore future actions to continue promoting intellectual cooperation on a global scale.

Qatar’s participation in the conference underscores its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote cultural exchange and international cooperation. Dr. Nasser bin Hamad Al Hanzab and Dr. Ghanem bin Mubarak Al Ali’s presence at the event highlights Qatar’s active involvement in global discussions on intellectual cooperation. The collaboration with UNESCO and other international partners demonstrates Qatar’s dedication to contributing to the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage.

The films showcased at the conference, restored in partnership with France, offered a glimpse into UNESCO’s vast archives and highlighted the organization’s efforts to preserve cultural heritage. The exhibition organized with Japan further emphasized the importance of international collaboration in promoting cultural understanding and appreciation. By participating in such events, Qatar reaffirms its commitment to fostering dialogue and cooperation in the cultural sphere.

As the world marks the centenary of the IIIC, there is an opportunity to reflect on the institute’s legacy and impact on global intellectual cooperation. The founders of UNESCO drew inspiration from the work of the IIIC, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and collaboration in promoting cultural exchange and understanding. Qatar’s participation in the recent conference in Paris reflects the country’s continued commitment to supporting initiatives that advance intellectual cooperation and cultural diplomacy on a global scale.

In conclusion, the recent international conference at UNESCO headquarters in Paris served as a platform to celebrate the centenary of the International Institute of Intellectual Cooperation and explore ways to further promote intellectual cooperation in the future. Qatar’s active participation in the event underscores its commitment to fostering international dialogue and collaboration in the cultural sphere. By continuing to engage in initiatives that promote cultural exchange and understanding, Qatar is contributing to the preservation and promotion of global cultural heritage.
