Qatar Hosts 23rd Meeting of GCC Heads of Civil Retirement and Social Insurance Agencies

The General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority in Doha is currently hosting the 23rd meeting of the Committee of Heads of Civil Retirement and Social Insurance Agencies in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The meeting, which will take place from today until November 6, 2024, is chaired by H E Ahmed bin Ali Al Hammadi, Director General of the Authority. The agenda includes discussions on various topics such as the committee’s action plan, statistical indicators for implementing the unified system for extending insurance protection, governance of technical committees, periodic seminars, and the Civil Retirement and Social Insurance Funds Award for Scientific Research. Member states and the General Secretariat will also submit proposals for review during the meeting.

The Technical Committee for Civil Retirement and Social Insurance Agencies in the GCC countries will start its work on November 4 and 5, 2024. Members will gather to discuss the development of retirement policies and mechanisms for unified social insurance systems. The goal is to enhance joint cooperation and ensure financial sustainability of civil retirement systems to provide comprehensive social protection for GCC citizens. The third day of the meeting, November 6, 2024, will see the Committee of Heads of Civil Retirement and Social Insurance Agencies convene to further discuss these important issues and make decisions regarding the future of civil retirement and social insurance in the GCC.

In addition to the main agenda, the meeting will also include activities to honor leading figures in the field of civil retirement and social insurance. These individuals will be recognized for their outstanding efforts and significant contributions to supporting and developing the civil retirement and social insurance sector. The Committee of Heads of Civil Retirement and Social Insurance Agencies in the GCC was established to promote cooperation and knowledge sharing among member states in the field of civil retirement and social insurance. Since 2001, the committee has been holding annual meetings with a focus on enhancing retirement systems and ensuring social protection for GCC citizens.

Overall, this meeting serves as an important platform for dialogue and collaboration among GCC countries to address key issues related to civil retirement and social insurance. By working together, member states can strengthen their retirement systems and provide better social protection for their citizens. The recognition of outstanding individuals in the field also highlights the importance of their contributions in supporting and developing civil retirement and social insurance in the GCC.
