A delegation from the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) recently visited South Sudan to monitor humanitarian assistance activities. The visit aimed to assess the progress of a project initiated in February 2024 to support refugees and returnees affected by armed conflict and extreme weather conditions in the region. A total of $2,344,420 was allocated for this project, in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Yousef Al Mulla, head of Disaster Management and Emergency Relief at QFFD, emphasized the organization’s commitment to helping vulnerable populations in South Sudan. The initiative includes activities such as restoring family links, providing healthcare support, aiding the war-wounded, and ensuring access to safe drinking water. The goal is to make a meaningful impact on the lives of refugees and returnees, offering them vital support during challenging circumstances.

Through the support of QFFD and QRCS, the ICRC has distributed Essential Household Item (EHI) kits, food rations, kitchen utensils, vegetable seeds, and gardening tools to affected communities in various regions of South Sudan. In addition, phone calls have been facilitated to help maintain or re-establish contact between separated family members, healthcare services have been extended to thousands of individuals, and emergency food aid has reached thousands of refugees and returnees. Access to safe water has also improved for over 24,000 people in the region.

The efforts of the QFFD, QRCS, and ICRC have had a tangible impact on the ground in South Sudan. By providing essential support to vulnerable populations, such as refugees and returnees, these organizations are helping to alleviate the hardships faced by those affected by conflict and harsh environmental conditions. The distribution of crucial items like food rations and household kits, along with healthcare services and access to safe water, is making a positive difference in the lives of thousands of people in the region.

The partnership between QFFD, QRCS, and ICRC demonstrates a collaborative and coordinated approach to humanitarian assistance in South Sudan. By working together, these organizations are able to reach a larger number of people in need and provide comprehensive support that addresses various aspects of the challenges faced by vulnerable populations. Through their combined efforts, they are able to maximize impact and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by conflict and natural disasters in the region.

Overall, the field visit conducted by the QFFD and QRCS highlights the ongoing commitment to humanitarian assistance in South Sudan. By monitoring and assessing the progress of projects on the ground, these organizations are able to ensure that their efforts are effectively meeting the needs of vulnerable populations in the region. The provision of essential support, such as food aid, healthcare services, and access to safe water, is crucial in helping refugees and returnees rebuild their lives and overcome the challenges they face in a complex and challenging environment.
