Qatar, the two-time Asian champions, recently faced a significant drop in the latest FIFA rankings, falling 10 spots to 44th place. This decline was due to their slow start in the FIFA 2026 World Cup Asian Qualifiers Round 3, where they suffered losses to lower-ranked United Arab Emirates and drew against North Korea. Despite this setback, Qatar still ranks as the fifth-best team among Arab nations, trailing behind Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria.

In their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches next month, Qatar will face Kyrgyzstan and Tehran as they aim to improve their ranking. Meanwhile, Argentina and France maintained their positions as the top two teams in the rankings, with Argentina leading with 1889.02 points and France following with 1851.92 points. Spain, England, Brazil, and Belgium round out the top six teams in the standings, with the top ten remaining unchanged.

The rankings also saw Japan rise to become the top-ranked Asian team, moving up two spots to 16th place. Iran and South Korea followed closely behind in 19th and 23rd place, respectively. Overall, a total of 184 international matches were played in September, including FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, continental competitions, and friendlies, showcasing the competitiveness and talent in the world of football.

Despite their recent slump in the rankings, Qatar remains a formidable force in Asian football and will look to bounce back in their upcoming matches. The team, led by Marquez Lopez, will be aiming to secure crucial wins against Kyrgyzstan and Tehran in the World Cup qualifiers to improve their standing and strengthen their chances of qualifying for the prestigious tournament. With their experience and talent, Qatar has the potential to rise back up the rankings and make an impact on the international stage.

As Qatar prepares for their upcoming matches, they will be looking to draw inspiration from fellow Arab nations such as Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria, who have all seen improvements in their rankings. These teams have shown that with determination and hard work, it is possible to make significant strides in the world of football and achieve success on a global scale. By following in their footsteps, Qatar can continue to elevate their performance and solidify their position as a top team in the region.

In the ever-evolving landscape of international football, rankings are just one aspect of a team’s success. Qatar’s recent setbacks serve as a reminder of the challenges and unpredictability of the sport, but also as an opportunity for growth and development. With a renewed focus and determination, Qatar has the potential to overcome adversity and reach new heights in the world of football, establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with on the international stage.
