Qatar Commits $75 Million to Support Humanitarian Efforts in Syria

The State of Qatar has pledged a generous donation of $75 million to support humanitarian efforts for the Syrian people. This contribution was announced by Minister of State for International Cooperation, HE Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, during the Syria donors conference in Brussels, Belgium. The Minister expressed hope that the conference would result in significant financial commitments and emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to mobilize financial support for Syria amidst a complex humanitarian crisis.

HE Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater highlighted the dire situation in Syria, pointing out the challenges of displacement and division that have been perpetuated by international and regional policies. She emphasized the need for genuine and effective international and regional efforts to find practical and fundamental solutions to the Syrian crisis. The Minister also noted the necessity of strength, courage, and sincerity from all parties involved in order to reach a decisive political settlement and end the conflict.

Despite the unique aspects of the Syrian crisis, HE Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater emphasized that it is not an unprecedented situation and that the region and the world have experienced many brutal civil wars and conflicts. The Minister also called for collective imagination to envision a different future for Syria, one where refugees can safely return to their homeland without fear of retribution, where the unity and territorial integrity of Syria are preserved, and where both the infrastructure and the people are rebuilt. This vision requires ongoing commitment from donors and stakeholders to support humanitarian efforts and interventions for the Syrian people.
