Qatar Classic kicks off with the stage set for intense competition

The QTerminals Qatar Classic Squash Championship is set to kick off in Doha, Qatar, with 64 of the world’s top-ranked men and women participating in the prestigious event. The tournament, which is part of the PSA World Tour Platinum series, will take place over six days at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. Reigning champions Ali Farag and Hania El Hammamy will be looking to defend their titles, promising an exciting competition for fans in Qatar.

QTSBF Secretary General Tariq Zainal expressed confidence in Doha’s ability to host a successful edition of the championship, highlighting the efforts made to ensure top-notch organization and competition. He emphasized that hosting international events like the Qatar Classic strengthens the country’s position as a hub for sports. With the tournament committee completing all preparations, Zainal is optimistic that fans will witness the highest level of play during the event.

The Order of Play released by QTSBF revealed intriguing first-round matchups, including top seed Ali Farag facing off against Youssef Ibrahim and World No.1 Nour El Sherbini taking on Sarah-Jane Perry. With marquee clashes like Coll vs. Makin and Momen vs. ElShorbagy on the cards, the tournament promises exciting action from start to finish. Qatari star Abdullah Al Tamimi will make his 10th appearance in the championship, adding local flavor to the competition.

Egyptian players have dominated the men’s Qatar Classic tournaments since its inception in 2001, with Mohamed El Shorbagy leading the way with four titles. In the women’s championship, Malaysia’s Nicol David holds the record with five titles, showcasing the diverse talent on display at the event. As the competition unfolds, fans can expect intense battles, upsets, and thrilling moments as players vie for the coveted title and prize money.
