Doha, Qatar – The Qatar Armed Forces recently concluded its 4km cross-country championship for the 2025/2026 season, showcasing the physical fitness and competitive spirit of personnel across various military units. Organized by the Military Sports Association, the event drew participation from nine teams representing different branches of the Qatar Armed Forces, alongside a team from the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya). The competition highlights Qatar’s ongoing investment in military readiness and athletic development.

The championship, held in Doha, culminated in award presentations led by Brigadier General Dr. Yousef Desmmal Al Kuwari, President of the Military Sports Association. First Lieutenant Ahmed Khalid Al Ansari of the Qatar Amiri Signal Corps secured the top position in the officer category, while Saeed Farhan Ali from the Qatar Amiri Air Force claimed victory among enlisted personnel. Lekhwiya ultimately took the team title, demonstrating strong overall performance.

Qatar Armed Forces Strengthens Military Fitness Through Cross-Country Championship

The annual cross-country championship serves as a key component of the Qatar Armed Forces’ comprehensive physical training program. According to the Ministry of Defence, regular participation in such events is designed to enhance endurance, stamina, and overall health among service members. This focus on physical conditioning is considered vital for maintaining operational effectiveness and readiness.

The competition’s structure included separate categories for officers and enlisted personnel, fostering a spirit of healthy rivalry across the ranks. Additionally, the inclusion of the Lekhwiya team broadened the scope of the event, promoting inter-agency cooperation and camaraderie. The event’s format encourages a broad range of participation, from seasoned athletes to those newer to competitive running.

Individual Results and Team Standings

First Lieutenant Al Ansari’s victory in the officer category was a testament to his dedication and training. His performance set a high standard for other competitors. Similarly, Saeed Farhan Ali’s win in the enlisted personnel category underscored the strength of the Qatar Amiri Air Force’s athletic program.

However, it was Lekhwiya’s consistent performance across all team members that secured their overall victory. The Qatar Amiri Air Force followed closely in second place, while the Military Parade Center rounded out the top three. These results reflect the varying levels of focus and resources dedicated to physical training within each unit.

The event also provides valuable data for the Military Sports Association to assess the current fitness levels of personnel. This information can then be used to refine training programs and identify areas for improvement. The association regularly analyzes performance metrics to optimize the effectiveness of its initiatives. Military training benefits from these assessments.

The Qatar Armed Forces have consistently prioritized physical fitness as a cornerstone of military preparedness. This commitment is evident in the numerous sporting events and training programs organized throughout the year. These initiatives are aligned with Qatar’s broader national vision for a healthy and active population. Sports in Qatar are increasingly recognized as important for national development.

Looking ahead, the Military Sports Association is expected to announce dates for the next series of athletic competitions in the coming months. Further details regarding potential changes to the cross-country championship format or inclusion of new units remain uncertain. Observers will be watching for any adjustments to the training regimens based on the results of this year’s event and ongoing evaluations of physical endurance standards.
