MP Jalal Kadhem has proposed a new law that would grant Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) inspectors broader access to workplaces across both the public and private sectors. The legislation, titled “Empowering Labour Inspectors,” aims to address the growing concern of labour violations, particularly among foreign workers, and ensure a more stable and equitable labour market for all. Kadhem emphasized the need for stricter enforcement of labour laws due to the increasing number of foreign workers in Bahrain. The proposed law would allow LMRA inspectors to access all workplaces, including those with security guards, government buildings, and private companies, regardless of their nature or industry.

The proposed legislation stresses the importance of verifying the data and records of foreign workers, including their employment contracts, to ensure they have valid work permits and are not in violation of any regulations. MP Kadhem highlighted the significance of ensuring that foreign workers are employed legally and ethically, as this not only protects their rights but also creates a fairer and more competitive environment for businesses operating in Bahrain. The proposed law also aims to expedite the process of rectifying labour violations and taking legal action against violators by granting inspectors the authority to take immediate action and address violations effectively to deter future offenses.

MP Jalal Kadhem believes that the proposed law is a crucial step towards ensuring a stable and prosperous labour market in Bahrain. By protecting the rights of both employers and employees, Kadhem hopes to create a more just and equitable society for all. The legislation is expected to be debated in the Parliament in the coming weeks, signaling a proactive approach to addressing labour issues and promoting a fair and competitive environment for businesses in Bahrain. The proposed law aims to empower LMRA inspectors to enforce labour laws more effectively and prevent violations among foreign workers, thereby contributing to a more stable and equitable labour market for all stakeholders.
