France’s President H E Emmanuel Macron recently met with a ministerial committee composed of representatives from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, and Egypt to discuss the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The meeting, which took place at the Elysee Presidential Palace in Paris, focused on the need for international efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, ensure the protection of civilians, and deliver humanitarian aid to those in need.

During the meeting, the committee members emphasized the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital along the 1967 borders. They also called for international recognition of the Palestinian state by the permanent members of the Security Council, in order to ensure the Palestinian people can achieve their legitimate rights and promote a comprehensive and just peace in the region.

The committee members reiterated their call for the international community to hold Israel accountable for its violations of international law and humanitarian law. They particularly emphasized their opposition to Israel’s control of the Rafah crossing and its prevention of urgently needed humanitarian aid from entering Gaza. The members stressed the urgent need to address these violations and ensure the rights and well-being of the Palestinian people.

The meeting in Paris reflects the ongoing international efforts to address the crisis in Gaza and support the Palestinian people. By bringing together representatives from key Arab and Islamic countries, as well as France, the meeting highlights the importance of multilateral cooperation in addressing complex geopolitical issues and promoting peace and stability in the region.

The discussions in Paris also underscore the role of France in mediating and facilitating diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in Gaza. President Macron’s engagement with the ministerial committee reflects France’s commitment to playing a constructive role in promoting dialogue, peace, and humanitarian assistance in the region.

As the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, the international community must redouble its efforts to address the root causes of the conflict, provide humanitarian assistance to those in need, and work towards a lasting and just resolution that respects the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people. The meeting in Paris serves as a reminder of the importance of international solidarity and collaboration in addressing the complex challenges facing the region.
