President of World Taekwondo believes Qatar is fully capable of hosting the 2036 Olympics

The President of World Taekwondo, Dr. Chungwon Choue, has expressed confidence in Qatar’s ability to host the 2036 Summer Olympic Games. He highlighted Qatar’s success in hosting major sporting events such as the Asian Games in 2006 and the upcoming FIFA World Cup in 2022. Dr. Choue praised Qatar’s exceptional organization and success in these events, stating that the country has proven itself capable of hosting events on the scale of the Olympic Games.

During his first visit to Qatar in 2006 for the Asian Games, Dr. Choue was impressed by the excellent organization and success of the event. He emphasized that most of the tournaments organized by Qatar have been exceptional and achieved tremendous success on all levels. Additionally, he noted the significant development of taekwondo in the Middle East and GCC countries, pointing out the regional importance of tournaments such as the Fujairah International Open Taekwondo Championship and the recent World Taekwondo Women’s Open Championships in Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Choue highlighted Qatar’s taekwondo infrastructure and experience, stating that the country is well-prepared to host international taekwondo competitions. He expressed his belief that hosting events such as the World Taekwondo Championships or the World Taekwondo Grand-Prix would not be difficult for Qatar. He also praised Qatar’s collaboration with the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation in using sports as a tool for positive social impact, particularly in supporting vulnerable communities and refugees.

The World Taekwondo chief praised Qatar’s outstanding organization of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which was widely praised and demonstrated the country’s capabilities in hosting major events. Dr. Choue expressed pride in his collaboration with the President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, in making sports a tool for positive social impact. He emphasized the importance of using sports to support vulnerable communities and refugees, highlighting the positive impact that sports can have on society.

Dr. Choue also highlighted the success of tournaments in the Middle East, such as the Fujairah International Open Taekwondo Championship and the World Taekwondo Women’s Open Championships in Saudi Arabia. He noted that these competitions are vital for the development of taekwondo in the region and will encourage the growth of the sport in the Middle East. Overall, Dr. Choue expressed confidence in Qatar’s ability to host major international sporting events, citing the country’s success and distinction in hosting previous tournaments.
