The International Chess Federation (FIDE) recently honored Mohammed Al Mudahka, the President of the Qatar Chess Association, during the celebration of International Chess Day. FIDE President, Arkady Dvorkovich, presented Al Mudahka with a special shield in recognition of his efforts in supporting and developing the game of chess in Qatar. The international master Jo Shen, a star of the Qatari national team and former world champion, was also honored for her contributions to the game at both the national and international levels.

FIDE organized various events around the world throughout the year as part of the centenary celebration, including a torch tour that started in India and traveled to different parts of the globe. Al Mudahka expressed his happiness and gratitude for the honor he received from the international chess family. He reiterated his commitment to spreading and developing chess in Qatar, Asia, and globally, providing opportunities for talented individuals interested in the game and supporting champions while motivating young people to join the chess community.

As the Director of International Relations at FIDE, Al Mudahka praised the work of International Master Jo Shen, highlighting her efforts to advance the game at all levels and develop the International Federation’s competitions. He emphasized the importance of continuing to advance chess in the Arab and Asian regions, as well as supporting local chess initiatives in collaboration with the International Federation. Al Mudahka noted that chess promotes integrity, inclusion, mutual respect, and fosters tolerance and understanding between individuals and nations.

Founded on July 20, 1924, during the eighth session of the Olympic Games in Paris, FIDE was established by representatives of 15 national associations to create an international chess governing body. In 2019, the United Nations General Assembly approved the celebration of World Chess Day on July 20th each year to commemorate the founding of FIDE. The recognition bestowed upon Mohammed Al Mudahka and Jo Shen reflects their dedication to promoting and enhancing the game of chess in Qatar and beyond, aligning with FIDE’s mission to advance the global chess community.

The celebration of International Chess Day serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to popularize and develop the game of chess around the world. Through initiatives like the torch tour and various events organized by FIDE, the love for chess continues to grow and reach new audiences. Mohammed Al Mudahka’s commitment to spreading the game in Qatar, Asia, and globally, underscores the transformative power of chess in fostering skills like critical thinking, strategy, and sportsmanship among players of all ages and backgrounds.

As the President of the Qatar Chess Association, Al Mudahka plays a pivotal role in nurturing talent, supporting champions, and creating opportunities for individuals interested in chess to excel. His collaboration with FIDE and dedication to advancing the game at both regional and international levels exemplify the spirit of unity and collaboration that chess embodies. By promoting inclusivity, respect, and understanding through chess, Al Mudahka and his colleagues contribute to creating a more harmonious and interconnected world where the language of chess transcends borders and cultures.
