Cycling gets pink for breast cancer awareness! More than 150 cyclists are gearing up for the second edition of the ‘Pink Tour’ in the UAE. The initiative, organized by Los Habibis, aims to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection and screening. The tour has grown from a one-day event to a three-day affair, covering various emirates in the UAE. The cyclists will be supported by a participants’ village at the starting point, offering refreshments and information about the community initiatives of Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP).

Robert Resto, the founder of Los Habibis, expressed his excitement with the overwhelming response from the community to participate in the Pink Tour. Cyclists were selected through a registration process, with a focus on intermediate and advanced riders. The event will be led by professional cyclists and supported by safety measures like police escorts, ambulances, and a technical team. The tour has expanded its reach to cover four emirates, showcasing the growth of the awareness campaign.

Breast cancer hits close to home for many cyclists participating in the Pink Tour, as they share personal stories of loved ones affected by the disease. Participants like Bissan AbuZainab and Martin Nikolenko have family members and friends battling breast cancer. The riders emphasized the importance of regular check-ups and early diagnosis in the fight against the disease. The Pink Tour serves as a platform to educate the younger generation about health and wellness while contributing to an important cause.

The Pink Tour also aims to address misconceptions and stigma surrounding breast cancer. Participants like Vanda Zebrakova shared how the visibility of cyclists in pink jerseys sparked conversations and helped educate the public about the importance of early diagnosis. Zebrakova, whose grandmother is a breast cancer survivor, is motivated to raise awareness and reduce the stigma associated with the disease. The initiative allows participants to dedicate their ride to loved ones affected by breast cancer, honoring their strength and resilience.

The Pink Caravan, a part of Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP), will provide free screenings and information about breast cancer prevention during the Pink Tour. Rashid Al Ameeri, the head of corporate communications at FOCP, highlighted the importance of early detection in breast cancer recovery, with a 98% chance of recovery when caught early. The Pink Caravan has been instrumental in breaking taboos and spreading awareness about breast cancer for the past 12 years. Initiatives like the Pink Tour play a crucial role in reaching new audiences and starting conversations about breast cancer within the community.

By participating in the Pink Tour, cyclists not only raise awareness about breast cancer but also contribute to a greater cause. The community initiative serves as a platform to educate, inspire, and spark conversations about the importance of early detection and screenings. Through their efforts, cyclists in pink kits pedal for hope, resilience, and support for those affected by breast cancer. Join the cycle of awareness and make a difference in the fight against breast cancer!
