With the unexpected cold weather hitting Doha, Qatar, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has issued a warning for the public to take precautions to protect their health and safety. The fluctuating weather conditions pose health risks, but those who have received the flu vaccine are better shielded against seasonal flu. The Department of Meteorology reported temperatures ranging from 5°C to 20°C in different areas, emphasizing the need for individuals to stay prepared for the cool daytime temperatures and very cold nights.

As part of their “Stay Safe, Stay Healthy” campaign on social media, PHCC has advised the public to cover their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing to prevent the spread of germs. Maintaining proper handwashing practices for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water is also crucial in preventing illness. PHCC recommends getting the annual flu vaccine and getting sufficient rest to maintain overall health and prevent sickness during this time of year.

PHCC has also shared tips on skincare during winter, suggesting the use of moisturizers to prevent dry skin, and applying sunscreen to protect the skin from damage. They advise against prolonged exposure to wood smoke, especially for children and the elderly, and recommend proper ventilation when using wood stoves or outdoor heating. For individuals with asthma, using inhalers as prescribed and keeping windows closed on dusty or polluted days can help protect against cold, dry air.

To enjoy the cool weather and stay active, PHCC encourages outdoor activities like walking or jogging while dressing warmly. They also recommend drinking warm beverages like ginger tea, chamomile tea, or peppermint tea to stay hydrated and energized. Eating healthy soups, such as vegetable or chicken soup, can also help individuals stay warm and maintain their energy levels during this season.

In conclusion, taking steps to stay healthy and safe during this cold weather period is vital. By following the advice of PHCC, individuals can protect themselves against potential health risks and enjoy the cool weather while maintaining their well-being. Proper precautions such as receiving the flu vaccine, practicing good hygiene, and skincare, as well as avoiding excessive exposure to smoke and staying active, are essential for staying healthy during this time of the year. So, it’s important for the public to heed the advice of health authorities and take measures to ensure their health and safety during this cold weather season in Doha, Qatar.
