An extremely premature baby boy named Musa, born last week after his mother had a near-death Caesarean section, is currently fighting for survival. The mother, Maryam Mohd Kalim Siddiqui, suffered cardiac arrest, leading to a risky emergency procedure to save both her life and the baby’s. Despite the low success rate, doctors were able to save both mother and baby Musa, who was born at only 27 weeks gestation, weighing 1.04kg.

Maryam has been discharged from the hospital and is recovering at home, while Musa has been transferred to Burjeel Specialty Hospital in Sharjah for further care. The father, Nadeem Abdul Wali, has already spent around Dh45,000 on medical expenses, with the insurance company covering only Dh9,000 as a maternity case. Nadeem, who has been off work since the emergency, continues to pay for Musa’s ventilator support, totaling over Dh12,500 in the past five days.

The estimated total cost for Musa’s care in the coming months is around Dh150,000, with doctors advising that he will need ventilator support for at least two months for his organs to fully develop and function. Nadeem, who is set to start a new job in Saudi Arabia next month, is grateful for the support received from IMH, his former employer, and family and friends. However, additional resources are still needed to ensure Musa’s full recovery.

In addition to baby Musa, the parents also have five-year-old twins, adding to their financial strain. They are hopeful for additional support and resources to help Musa overcome his challenges and grow stronger. The family is grateful for any assistance in covering the mounting medical bills and ensuring that both mother and baby receive the care they need to thrive. Despite the challenges they face, they remain hopeful and grateful for the support they have received so far.
