Former Texas Rangers star Robinson Chirinos, a Venezuelan MLB player, has now branched out into owning Baseball United, a new baseball league in Dubai. Venezuela, a country known for its love of baseball rather than football, has produced over 400 players who have played in Major League Baseball since 1939. Chirinos, who left Venezuela at 16 to pursue a career in baseball, has played for multiple MLB teams and is now focused on growing the sport in the Middle East and South Asia.

Baseball United, set to kick off in October 2025, aims to feature five professional teams with some of the biggest names in baseball. Alongside the professional league, there is also the BU Arab Classic tournament for amateurs, promoting the sport in the region. The tournament will see national teams from UAE, Saudi Arabia, India, Pakistan, and Palestine compete, with a focus on providing opportunities to aspiring baseball players in war-torn regions.

Chirinos, speaking about the significance of including a team from Palestine in the tournament, highlighted the power of baseball in bringing people together and providing hope in times of crisis. Despite the challenges faced by athletes from Palestine due to the ongoing conflict, the presence of their team in the tournament is seen as a positive step towards unity. Chirinos aims to use Baseball United as a platform to give children from countries facing adversity the chance to dream big through sports.

The tournament in Dubai will also witness historic games between fierce rivals, India and Pakistan, who are known for intense cricket clashes. Chirinos believes that these baseball matches can serve as a bridge to bring the two nations closer together through sport. By providing a platform for people from different countries and backgrounds to come together and connect through baseball, Chirinos hopes to promote unity and understanding among nations with differing views and histories. Baseball United is seen as a vehicle for fostering cross-cultural relationships and bringing about positive change through sports.
