The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has addressed concerns regarding the completion of renovations at three stadiums ahead of the Champions Trophy scheduled for next year. Despite ongoing construction work, the PCB has clarified that only bilateral Tests and domestic matches may be affected, not the international tournament. The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, National Stadium in Karachi, and Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium are all undergoing revamps to meet international standards.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi inspected the progress of the renovations at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and acknowledged that there is still much work to be done to bring the stadiums up to par. The media reports that suggested the redevelopment may not be completed in time for the Champions Trophy next year were deemed as misleading by the PCB. The statement released by the PCB assured that the designated stadiums will be ready to host the international event as scheduled, with some domestic matches possibly being shifted to accommodate ongoing construction work.

In an effort to further enhance the infrastructure of its cricket stadiums, the PCB has enlisted the services of UK’s BDP Pattern, an architecture company, to assist in the upgrades. The decision to improve the stadiums comes as Pakistan prepares to defend their title in the upcoming Champions Trophy, having emerged as the winners in the last edition held in England in 2017. The ICC’s decision to reinstate the tournament is part of their initiative to host a major cricket event every year.

Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing construction work, the PCB remains committed to ensuring that the redevelopment of the stadiums is completed on time to host the prestigious Champions Trophy. While some adjustments may need to be made for domestic matches, the PCB prioritizes the international event and is focused on delivering a successful tournament. With the support of BDP Pattern and other stakeholders, Pakistan is determined to showcase world-class facilities for players and fans alike during the Champions Trophy.
