Over 29,500 Visitors to Fatah Al Khair Centre in Sur

The Fatah Al Khair Centre in the Wilayat of Sur, Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate, has become a popular cultural and historical landmark, attracting a total of 29,586 visitors from various nationalities since its opening in November 2021. The centre aims to showcase the maritime heritage of Sur and highlight the achievements of the ancestors through the large ships that played a significant role in maritime history. With five halls that narrate the history of Sur, display traditional shipbuilding crafts, and offer educational materials for children, the centre serves as a valuable resource for both locals and tourists.

The Fatah Al Khair Centre’s courtyard features the Fatah Al Khair ship and other Omani boats known for their craftsmanship, enhancing the overall experience for visitors. In addition to the impressive ships, the centre houses over 400 artifacts, including the manuscript ‘Maden Al Asrar Fi Elm Al Behar Manuscript’ and various tools and household items historically used in Sur. The centre not only serves as a tourism destination but also plays a vital role in preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the region.

Ali Al Mashaikhi, the Acting Director of the Fatah Al Khair Centre, mentioned that the centre offers workshops and training sessions for students and entities interested in learning more about Sur’s maritime heritage. This educational aspect of the centre helps to spread awareness about the importance of preserving traditional crafts and customs related to maritime navigation. By showcasing the achievements of the ancestors and highlighting the role Omanis have played in maritime history, the centre contributes to fostering a sense of pride and appreciation for the country’s cultural heritage.

The maritime heritage of Sur is deeply rooted in the region’s history, with traditional ships like Al Ghanjah, Sambuq, Jalboot, and Al Bum being iconic symbols of Sur’s maritime legacy.
