The Ooredoo Stars League in Qatar had an intense round 6 match where Al Shahania ended Al Duhail’s perfect run. A brace by Pelle van Amersfoort gave Al Shahania their first victory of the season, snapping Al Duhail’s five-match winning streak. Despite Michael Olunga’s 74th-minute consolation goal for Al Duhail, coach Christophe Galtier blamed the team’s lack of intensity and accuracy for the defeat. This loss allowed Al Ahli to close the gap to just one point after their 4-2 victory over Al Shamal. Galtier expressed disappointment at the result, stating it was a blow to their campaign after a good start to the season where they failed to adhere to their game plan and secure victory.

Following their victory, Al Shahania moved up two spots to 10th place with five points, ahead of Qatar SC by one point, while Al Khor slipped to the bottom with three points after losing to Al Wakrah. Al Wakrah, now with 11 points, sits above Umm Salal by one point after Umm Salal was held to a 2-2 draw by Qatar SC. Al Sadd, the defending champions, are currently in fifth place with nine points and will look to extend their winning streak after bouncing back from consecutive defeats with a 4-2 victory over Al Gharafa. Al Gharafa and Al Shamal occupy sixth and seventh positions respectively, with Al Arabi and Al Rayyan in eighth and ninth place, aiming to climb the standings when the league resumes on October 18th.

Coach Igor Biscan praised his side after a commanding victory over Al Shamal, as Al Ahli remains the only team to continue their unbeaten streak after six games. Al Wakrah also performed well with 11 points, holding a one-point lead over Umm Salal, who was held to a draw by Qatar SC. The league standings show a competitive landscape with defending champions Al Sadd looking to regain their winning form. As the league resumes following the AFC Champions League Elite and Two matches and FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, the pressure is on for all teams to secure victories and climb the rankings.

In summary, the recent round of the Ooredoo Stars League in Qatar saw Al Shahania pulling off a surprise victory over Al Duhail, ending their winning streak. Al Ahli’s win over Al Shamal closed the gap between the top teams, while Al Wakrah and Umm Salal continue to battle for higher positions in the standings. With defending champions Al Sadd aiming to regain their winning form, the upcoming matches promise exciting competition and potential shifts in the league rankings. As the league resumes after a break, all teams will be looking to secure victories and climb the standings in the pursuit of the top spot.
