Omani student clinches second place in FIAP global photography contest

Muscat: Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) student Maria Mohammed Al Rahbi achieved second place at the individual level in the World Photography Cup for Universities and Higher Education Institutions 2024. Maria, a computer science major in the College of Science, is a member of the photography group at the Deanship of Student Affairs. She entered the competition alongside a team from SQU after it was opened to higher education institutions globally. Each institution is limited to five students, with each student allowed to submit four photos for consideration. The contest, organized by the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP), attracted 88 universities from various countries.

The judging panel for the competition featured esteemed experts in the field of photography, including photographers from renowned organizations such as the National Geographic Society and the Silk Road Photography Organization, as well as officials from the FIAP. The award presentation ceremony is scheduled to take place in China in October 2024, along with an international conference and a photography exhibition. A selection of fifteen of Maria Al Rahbi’s artistic pieces will be on display in FIAP wings as part of the event. Additionally, Maria will participate in a workshop alongside international photographers during the same occasion.
