Under the royal directive of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi led the delegation of the Sultanate to the Summit of the Future, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly. Sayyid Badr reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, pragmatism, and mutual respect in addressing global crises. He highlighted the pivotal role of inclusive dialogue platforms, such as the United Nations, in promoting these values and called attention to ongoing challenges, particularly the conflict in Gaza, which threatens multilateralism and the rule of law.

The Foreign Minister emphasized the need to move away from Cold War-era thinking towards more open and pragmatic approaches suited to today’s multipolar world. He stressed the importance of opening channels of dialogue with all parties, including those considered as adversaries, in order to achieve sustainable solutions based on addressing the root causes of conflicts. Sayyid Badr reiterated the Sultanate’s support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and called for reform of multilateral frameworks to broaden representation and emphasize justice, international law, and peaceful conflict resolution.

Sayyid Badr also highlighted the importance of sustainable development and Oman Vision 2040 in aligning with efforts to promote youth as a driving force for building the future. He underlined the role of technology and digital cooperation in addressing environmental, economic, and social challenges, emphasizing the significance of science in improving the efficiency of environmental resource use. The Sultanate of Oman pledged to continue supporting efforts that promote cooperation, trust, understanding, and justice for all.

Overall, Oman’s participation in the Summit of the Future in New York underscored its commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation. Sayyid Badr’s speech emphasized the core values of dialogue, pragmatism, and mutual respect as essential for addressing global crises and promoting inclusive solutions. The Minister’s call for a shift away from outdated thinking and towards more open and pragmatic approaches reflects Oman’s support for broader representation and justice in international frameworks. By highlighting the importance of sustainable development and technology in addressing challenges, Oman reaffirmed its dedication to building a better future for all.
