The Sultanate of Oman recently participated in the 15th Session of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Summit Conference held in Banjul, the Republic of the Gambia. The theme of the summit was “Enhancing unity and solidarity through dialogue for sustainable development”. Oman’s delegation was led by Dr. Mohammed Said Al Maamari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, who conveyed the greetings of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the attendees.

During his speech at the summit, Al Maamari emphasized the need for member states to come together to address common challenges facing the Islamic world. He highlighted the importance of combating extremism, terrorism, discrimination, hatred, and Islamophobia, while promoting values of tolerance and coexistence. Al Maamari also expressed concern over the military escalation in the region, which he attributed to Israel’s aggression against the Gaza Strip.

The minister also criticized the international community for failing to take action to stop the ongoing conflict in Palestine. He expressed regret over the Security Council’s failure to adopt resolutions recognizing the State of Palestine, despite global consensus on the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination. Al Maamari reaffirmed Oman’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause at international and regional meetings.

The two-day summit addressed various challenges facing the Islamic world, including combating hate speech and Islamophobia, as well as economic, humanitarian, social, and cultural issues. It called for the promotion of dialogue among nations belonging to different civilizations. The conference aimed to enhance unity and solidarity among member states through dialogue for sustainable development.

Overall, Oman’s participation in the OIC Summit Conference in Banjul highlights its commitment to addressing common challenges facing the Islamic world. The country’s delegation, led by Dr. Mohammed Said Al Maamari, emphasized the importance of combating extremism, terrorism, and discrimination, while promoting values of tolerance and coexistence. The conference provided a platform for member states to discuss ways to enhance unity and solidarity through dialogue for sustainable development.
