The Sultanate of Oman is significantly boosting its tourism profile in Europe, with a major promotional campaign recently launched in Spain. This initiative, targeting approximately 70,000 potential visitors, is a key step in preparing for the prestigious International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) 2026 in Madrid and solidifying Oman tourism as a year-round destination. The campaign underscores Oman’s commitment to attracting a diverse range of travelers and establishing itself as a premier travel experience.

Expanding Oman Tourism’s Reach in the Spanish Market

Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) is strategically focusing on the Spanish market, recognizing its potential for growth in tourist arrivals. The multi-platform campaign utilizes social media, dedicated tourism websites, and various international promotional platforms to maximize visibility. This comprehensive approach ensures that the unique beauty and cultural richness of Oman are showcased to a broad audience across Spain. The timing of this push, ahead of FITUR 2026, is crucial for building anticipation and securing valuable partnerships within the travel industry.

Targeting Niche Tourism Sectors

A defining feature of this campaign is its emphasis on specialized tourism segments that are particularly appealing to Spanish travelers. These include marine tourism, with Oman’s stunning coastline and diverse marine life; adventure tourism, capitalizing on the dramatic landscapes of the Hajar Mountains and expansive deserts; and golf tourism, leveraging the country’s world-class golf courses.

Additionally, the campaign highlights opportunities in wedding tourism, cruise tourism, wellness tourism, and cultural and heritage tourism. This targeted strategy acknowledges the evolving preferences of modern travelers and positions Oman as a destination that caters to a wide spectrum of interests. By focusing on these niche areas, Oman aims to attract higher-spending tourists who are seeking authentic and memorable experiences.

Familiarization Trips and Training for Travel Professionals

Recognizing the importance of firsthand experience, the MHT is organizing familiarization trips for Spanish travel companies. These trips will allow agents and tour operators to explore Oman’s attractions and hospitality services directly, enabling them to better promote the destination to their clients. This immersive approach is far more effective than simply providing brochures or online information.

Complementing the familiarization trips, the ministry is also conducting regular training sessions for tourism company representatives. These sessions provide in-depth knowledge of Oman’s diverse regions, unique experiences, and the high standards of Omani hospitality. Equipping travel professionals with this expertise will ensure they can confidently and accurately represent Oman to potential visitors.

Campaign Scale and Visibility

The scale of the promotional campaign is substantial, employing 58 different promotional mediums. These mediums are designed to generate an average of 185 displays and repetitions, guaranteeing consistent exposure to the target audience. This level of saturation is intended to build brand recognition and create a lasting impression of Oman as a desirable travel destination. The strategic deployment of these mediums across various platforms is a testament to the MHT’s commitment to maximizing impact.

Building on Previous Success: The London Campaign

This Spanish initiative builds upon the success of a similar promotional campaign conducted in London in November 2025, coinciding with Oman’s participation in the World Travel Market (WTM). The London campaign effectively showcased Oman’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and historical significance, positioning it as a distinctive and authentic destination on the global tourism map.

The London promotion featured eye-catching public transport advertising, displaying iconic images of Oman’s mountains, wadis, beaches, and historic forts. It also emphasized the renowned Omani hospitality and the thrilling adventure tourism experiences available. This successful campaign served as a valuable blueprint for the current efforts in Spain, demonstrating the effectiveness of a multi-faceted approach to destination marketing.

Strengthening Bilateral Tourism Relations

Ultimately, the goal of these promotional efforts is to strengthen bilateral tourism relations between Oman and key European countries. Officials are optimistic that the increased visibility and targeted marketing will lead to a significant rise in tourist arrivals from Spain. Furthermore, they hope to enhance Oman’s reputation as a premium travel destination, attracting discerning travelers who appreciate quality, authenticity, and unique experiences. The focus on luxury travel within the broader campaign is expected to appeal to this demographic.

The MHT’s proactive approach to promoting Oman tourism demonstrates a clear vision for the future of the sector. By investing in targeted campaigns, familiarization trips, and training programs, Oman is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for experiential travel and establish itself as a leading destination in the global tourism landscape. Continued investment in these areas will be vital for sustained growth and success.
