The 33rd edition of the COMEX Global Technology Show 2024 was inaugurated by HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, on Monday in Muscat. The four-day event, held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, brought together over 100 local and international firms to showcase the latest technologies and electronic services. Organised by Aldar Al Arabiya Company in partnership with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, the exhibition aims to promote digital investment.

Dr. Ali Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology, highlighted the National Programme for Digital Economy, which aims to increase the digital economy’s contribution to GDP from 2 percent to 10 percent by 2040. Since the announcement of the program, investments in the communications and information technology sector have exceeded OMR1 billion ($2.5 billion). Investments are focused on various areas such as communications technologies, data storage and processing, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, space technology, and semiconductors.

During his speech, Al Shidhani mentioned that the value of agreements and projects announced at COMEX 2024 is 60% higher than those announced at the previous year’s event, with an increase of OMR40 million. He revealed that new projects and agreements announced during the opening day of the exhibition amount to OMR60 million, covering digital fields, technical infrastructure development, and projects by the Omani Investment Authority to support digital economy and technology investments.

Various agreements were signed during the inaugural ceremony by companies specializing in digital transition, technical infrastructure development, and projects supported by the Oman Investment Authority. The event was attended by ministers, undersecretaries, members of the State Council and Shura Council, CEOs, and representatives of companies participating in the exhibition, showcasing the importance of digital investment and technology advancement in Oman.

Overall, the 33rd edition of COMEX Global Technology Show 2024 in Muscat provided a platform for both local and international firms to network, promote digital investment, and showcase the latest technologies and electronic services. The event highlighted the significant investments made in the communications and information technology sector, with a focus on supporting the digital economy’s growth and development. The agreements signed during the exhibition are expected to further boost technology investments and contribute to Oman’s vision of becoming a leading digital hub in the region.
