Legendary Qatari high jumper Mutaz Barshim, at 33 years old, continues to maintain his ambition of winning every competition he participates in, just like he did as a teenager. Following his historic fourth Olympic medal at the Paris Games, where he won a bronze medal, Barshim is now setting his sights on winning a fourth world title at the World Championships in Japan next year. The Qatari athlete, who is the most decorated men’s high jumper in Olympic history with three previous medals from London 2012, Rio 2016, and Tokyo 2020, expressed his happiness and pride at the achievement.

Barshim stated that the Tokyo World Athletics Championships in 2023 will be his next major goal after the Paris Olympics, where he plans to continue making history. While he will consider participating in a few Diamond League events, including the What Gravity Challenge, he emphasized that his main focus will be on the World Championships in Japan. When asked about the possibility of competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, Barshim mentioned that while it is possible, he wants to ensure he is in top condition to have a chance at winning.

The legendary high jumper also has his sights set on breaking the long-standing world record set by Cuban Javier Sotomayor of 2.45m. Barshim’s personal best is 2.43m, making him the second-highest jumper in history. Despite his numerous achievements, Barshim remains focused on staying healthy and pushing himself to new heights. Additionally, he expressed his desire to work with young Qatari athletes post-retirement, stating that the talent and infrastructure in Qatar are strong and promising for the future of high jump in the country.

Barshim’s dedication and passion for high jumping have propelled him to become one of the most successful athletes in the sport. His consistent performances at major competitions, including the Olympics and World Championships, have solidified his place as a legend in high jump history. As he looks towards the future, Barshim remains determined to continue challenging himself and setting new records while also giving back to the sport by mentoring young athletes in Qatar.

Overall, Mutaz Barshim’s journey from a determined teenager with big dreams to a legendary high jumper with multiple Olympic and world titles is a testament to his dedication and hard work. His future goals of breaking the world record and supporting the next generation of Qatari athletes highlight his commitment to excellence both on and off the track. With his sights set on more victories and continued success, Barshim’s legacy in the world of high jump is sure to endure for years to come.
