Barcelona’s forward Daniel Olmo scored twice in his first start after injury to help Barcelona defeat local rival Espanyol 3-1 on November 4, 2024. This victory extended Barcelona’s lead at the top of La Liga to nine points, as second-place Real Madrid were not in action due to the region’s devastating floods. Olmo’s goals, along with one from Raphinha, gave Barcelona a three-goal lead by the 31st minute.

Despite Espanyol fighting back with a goal from Javi Puado in the second half, Barcelona’s solid defense and attacking display secured their 10th win in 11 La Liga matches under new manager Hansi Flick. Olmo, who recently joined Barcelona from RB Leipzig, impressed with his performance in the match, showcasing his talent and goal-scoring ability. The 17-year-old rising star Lamine Yamal also made an impact, assisting in creating Barcelona’s first goal.

Espanyol had three disallowed goals during the game, showing Barcelona’s defensive strength and effective high defensive line. Barcelona’s goalkeeper, Inaki Pena, made a stunning save to deny Puado a goal, while Lewandowski, the top goalscorer in La Liga, was unable to find the net in this match. Despite Espanyol’s efforts to fight back, Barcelona’s dominant first-half performance and solid defensive display ultimately secured the victory for the home team.

In stoppage time, Ansu Fati scored another goal for Barcelona, but it was also disallowed for offside. The victory against Espanyol marked another impressive performance by Barcelona under Flick’s management, showcasing their strong form and determination to maintain their lead at the top of La Liga. With key players like Olmo and Yamal stepping up and contributing to the team’s success, Barcelona’s fans can look forward to more exciting matches and potential victories with Flick at the helm.
