World Art Dubai (WAD) recently held its 10th edition at the Dubai World Trade Centre, attracting a diverse crowd of art enthusiasts and creatives. One of the standout exhibitions at the event was Spectro Lucid Art curated by Carlo Garrido, showcasing surrealistic masterpieces and celebrating diversity, creativity, and advocacy. Carlo, a businessman and psychotherapist living in Dubai, curated the exhibition based on the themes of steam punk and feminism within the realm of surrealism. The title, Spectro Lucid, signifies the artists’ connection to the autism spectrum and their lucid creativity.

Carlo’s personal journey as an individual on the autism spectrum inspired him to create a platform for Filipino artists, four of whom are also on the spectrum, to showcase their talents. Despite being officially diagnosed with autism last year, Carlo always knew about his condition and believes it is a superpower rather than a disability. Through his art initiative, he aims to raise awareness about autism and encourage individuals to embrace their strengths.

The exhibition reflects the incredible talent and diversity within the autism community, with each artwork portraying unique experiences and hyper-focused details. Collaborating with fellow artists on the spectrum was a fulfilling experience for Carlo, emphasizing the importance of sharing art and raising awareness rather than focusing solely on sales. By challenging stereotypes and fostering understanding, Carlo hopes to change perceptions about individuals with autism and showcase their talents in various fields.

Carlo emphasizes the need to spread awareness about autism and highlight the talents and capabilities of individuals on the spectrum. He believes that people with autism are just as talented and capable as those without the condition, excelling in various fields such as business, sports, art, and music. His transition from art collector to curator exemplifies the transformative power of art in breaking down barriers and changing lives. Moving forward, Carlo remains dedicated to promoting art appreciation and advocating for autism awareness, determined to continue his inspiring and encouraging work.

In conclusion, Carlo Garrido’s journey as an art curator and advocate for autism awareness is a powerful example of how art can transcend barriers and bring about positive change. By showcasing the talents of individuals on the autism spectrum through the Spectro Lucid Art exhibition, Carlo is spreading awareness, challenging stereotypes, and fostering inclusivity. Through his continued dedication to promoting art and raising awareness about autism, Carlo is making a significant impact and inspiring others to embrace their strengths and talents.
