Reem Harazin, a Palestinian artist, uses her art as a form of expression and resistance, turning her thoughts and inner self into creations that speak to her roots and identity. Growing up in Palestine, she understands the struggle for survival, freedom, and the dream of returning home that shapes her and her community’s experiences. Her collaboration with Palestinian Hustle on the “Native” collection showcases Palestinian motifs and symbols that are integral to her culture and heritage. Through her art, she aims to preserve Palestinian history and share it with the world.

The “Native” collection features symbols such as the key of return, the keffiyeh, the olive leaf, the fishing net and the sea, and the Al Quds Wall, all representing different aspects of Palestinian identity and resilience. Each symbol holds a deep meaning in the Palestinian narrative, reflecting the struggle and determination of the people. Despite the challenges faced in Gaza, Reem finds strength and motivation in creating art that highlights the beauty and spirit of her community amidst adversity. Through her designs, she seeks to convey a message of hope and perseverance, showcasing the resilience of the Palestinian people.

Art serves as a powerful form of resistance and resilience for Reem and her community in Gaza, transcending the barriers imposed on them and allowing them to express their emotions and dreams. Through their art, they share their stories with the world, conveying a message of hope and unity in the face of hardship. Looking towards the future, Reem envisions a Palestinian art and culture scene filled with creativity and hope, despite the ongoing struggles for freedom and security. She hopes that future generations of artists will continue to share the stories of resilience and dreams that define the Palestinian identity.

For aspiring artists in Gaza and other conflict zones, Reem offers words of encouragement and advice to keep pursuing their passions despite the obstacles they face. She emphasizes the importance of believing in one’s talent and using art as a means of expression and empowerment. By harnessing their creativity and determination, aspiring artists can overcome challenges and make their voices heard through their art. Reem urges them to continue learning and developing their skills, drawing inspiration from their surroundings and the stories of everyday life. Ultimately, she stresses that art is a powerful tool for making an impact and leaving a lasting legacy.
