According to a recent survey, 99 per cent of UAE organisations experienced two or more identity-related breaches in the past year. CyberArk, an identity security company, conducted a global research report that highlighted the increasing risks associated with securing human and machine identities in enterprises. The report emphasized the importance of addressing the growing quantity of both human and machine identities, with security professionals globally rating machines as the riskiest identity type.

Machine identities, fueled by the adoption of multi-cloud strategies and AI-related programs, are being created in vast numbers, often lacking proper security controls. This makes them a potent threat vector that can be exploited by cyber attackers. Key findings from the report include the prevalence of identity-related breaches in UAE organisations, the rapid growth of machine identities, and the increasing concerns over software supply chain security.

In response to these threats, organisations in the UAE are increasingly adopting AI-powered tools as part of their cybersecurity defense initiatives. The report predicts a rise in the volume and sophistication of identity-related attacks, as both skilled and unskilled bad actors leverage AI-powered malware and phishing techniques. Despite these risks, the majority of respondents are confident that their employees can identify deepfakes targeting their organisation’s leadership.

Organisations in the UAE have recognized the importance of investing in identity-related products and services, with 100 per cent increasing their investment in the past year as a result of breaches. The report also offers insights into the consequences of identity-centric cyber breaches and provides recommendations for improving security practices to keep up with evolving cyber threats. By prioritizing identity security and adopting AI-driven cybersecurity defenses, organisations can better protect themselves from identity-based attacks.

In conclusion, the CyberArk 2024 Identity Security Threat Landscape Report highlights the critical need for organisations to address the growing risks associated with human and machine identities. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, businesses must gain a clearer understanding of the nature of access control and the attack surface it represents. By investing in identity security and leveraging AI-driven tools, organisations can build resilience against the rising threats posed by cyber attackers.
